Afghanistan Golf And Missouri Tigers

It's the little things.

In 2010 Ann and I took a trip to Kabul, Afghanistan for our 25th wedding anniversary. I know, you thought of going there too. Our friends, Scott and Laura Powell showed us around. We led seminars/discussions for marriage, stress, singles, and teens. We also debriefed individually with many westerners who live there.

And I played golf at the Kabul Golf Club, the only course in Afghanistan. Kabul is about the same elevation as Denver and the course is up the mountains a bit. It's kinda like driving up to Evergreen from Denver. You can see all the pictures Scott took of our time on the course

After the round, I donated my bag and clubs to the struggling golf course. I gave them to the golf pro, Abdul. He was most gracious and appreciative. Well, earlier this week, July 2017, I checked out the club web site. There was Abdul holding up the square Nickent driver I left with my set! I always wondered what happened to them. I'm so glad they are being put to good use.

I also checked out a short video on youtube about the history of KGC. At the end of the video were two caddies carrying the Missouri Tiger bag I donated still being carried up and down the mountains above Kabul.

My soul is warmed knowing I've helped just a touch for golf to maintain a breath of life in Afghanistan. May it continue to grow and be revived.

MIZ!
