242/444 Healing from Infidelity: Spiritual Intimacy 2, Affairs and Blue Like Jazz

Why is spiritual intimacy important? It connects us at the core of who we are more than anything else. This is a beautiful thing and a problem when seeking to connect there when recovering from an affair.

Ann and I saw Blue Like Jazz tonight. In the movie, Don's mom slept with and got pregnant by the youth pastor Don served under. Don faced a real crisis of belief about his faith and God. That is exactly where you are. Your spouse, someone who you probably perceived was walking this road with God and you, had sex with someone else shattering your heart.

How do you let that person into that inner sanctum again? Is God's grace really bigger than that sin, betrayal and resulting pain? I believe it is. You get the privilege of experiencing more of the pain of the crucifixion to have that made more evident to you. It's not a gift any of us sign up for, but it is a most precious gift.

As you wrestle with us I encourage you to let it all hang out. Affair recovery is messy with wild swings of emotion at times. Be honest with it.

You can’t hide anything from God. He knows everything. When we share our spirituality with one another, it’s as though we can’t hide anything from our spouse either. And when you aren't hiding anything from one another there is space for true intimacy.
