152/444: Healing from Infidelity: Let's get the Party started!
2012.02.04
Ann:
I talked with an acquaintance the other day about how he celebrated New Year’s Eve. He was thoroughly disappointed because he felt the party wasn’t so stellar because nobody got completely wasted. To which I replied…”Every day can be a party, it just doesn’t have to involve copious amounts of alcohol!”
Maybe partying was on my mind that day because my devotion included Psalm 91 which says in verse 15 “Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party.”
That got me to thinking…wow…God sure does like to party. I had been reminded of the story of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15 last weekend at our Marriages Restored Conference. When the Prodigal Son returns, the father tells the Elder brother “…we had to celebrate.”
So that got me to thinking…I wonder where God parties in the rest of Scripture. Let me just tell you…a LOT. Here is a sampling of what I found…
Luke 15:10 “that’s the kind of party God’s angels throw every time one lost soul turns to God.”
Psalm 5:11 “But you’ll welcome us with open arms when we run for cover to you. Let the party last all night! Stand guard over our celebration.”
Psalm 40:8 “I’m coming to the party you’re throwing for me.”
The common theme seemed to me to be that when we move towards God, that His desire is to welcome us with a grand celebration! So let’s get the party started!
