Ladies, now it’s my turn to shed a little light on our inner world. I’ll spend the next few days focusing on what is unique about Women.
Just as a man desires respect, a woman desires love. We want to feel cherished.
So many of us have been told “I love you” only to have a demand placed on our bodies in exchange for those three words we crave. Can you relate? Either of you, the women AND the men out there. Women…have you been on the receiving end of those demands? Men…have you been on the demanding end of those demands? And the demand isn’t always ‘violent’. It can often be incredibly subtle. This is how the world has skewed and twisted our natural desire to be loved.
Remember, we were created to be relational, and part of that gift we were created with includes not only giving but receiving love. What happens in the soul of a woman when she receives genuine love? She can rest. She can exhale, and I’m not just talking about not sucking in our tummies. She can begin to loosen her grip of control on the world around her.
Control…ah…that’s a word we’ve heard before. Your love is an antidote to our distorted desire to control. Why is that you ask? So glad you asked…we feel secure in your strength. When you step into the role God has given you to be a man of strength and courage, we know that all will be right in our world. Love us out of the core of that strength and we know that all will be right in our hearts. Our hearts feel more secure, knowing that your love is not just a surface love, nor just a physical love, but it is a love much like Christ’s love for the church.
Husbands, go all out in your love for your wives, exactly as Christ did for the church – a love marked by giving, not getting. Christ’s love makes the church whole. Ephesians 5:25-26 (MSG)
