72/444 Healing from Infidelity: Speak and Move

The masculine soul is created to speak and move. So it makes sense that our primary sin will be avoidance or not moving.

Take a look at Genesis 3. Where was Adam when Eve ate the fruit?  It appears he was right there.  He didn’t speak.  He didn’t intervene. He looked on in silence as Eve acted on the temptation of the serpent. He didn't say anything. He didn't do anything.  His initial sin occurred simultaneously with hers.

Up until that point the world was to go easily for man, it is now filled with thorns and thistles. And thorns and thistles bring pain and blood so we don't like them.  So we avoid. 'It's too hard." At times in my life I did not try something new because I was afraid of (fill in the blank) so I avoided.

After my 4th grade year we moved to Missouri from Virginia. I really like playing baseball. I was afraid of going to tryouts in Missouri when we arrived here. Maybe I thought the 10 year olds were going to be seven feet tall or with 30 biceps. Whatever drove the fear, I froze. I refused to go to tryouts and missed out on playing a game I really enjoyed.

It's an example of my avoidance as a man.  And no happy ending with it. I never playing organized baseball again.  I did play one year of fast pitch softball when I was around thirty. It was a redemptive experience to be back out on the dirt infield. I mostly sucked as a hitter, but I still had a great time being on the field and playing.

A great resource on our avoidence as men is Silence of Adam by Larry Crabb.

Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.

~Genesis 3:17-18
