398/444 Healing from Infidelity: Mercy and Freeeeeeedom!

Mercy is much like compassion. It is a ‘disposition to be kind and forgiving’. Whenever I consider Mercy, my mind goes to the movie Braveheart. At the end of the movie, William Wallace has been captured by the
English and is scheduled to be executed. The Bishop who is in the role of executioner keeps telling Wallace that if he begs for mercy that he will end his pain and suffering by killing him quickly. If you remember, Wallace does not beg for mercy. No, he gives one last rally cry for freedom.

God does not make us beg for Mercy. No, he offers it freely and completely. But unlike the Bishop’s version of mercy, God’s mercy isn’t given to end our pain and suffering quickly. It is given to again, be with us in our pain and suffering. One of my favorite authors, Angela Thomas, puts it this way:  “Mercy is knowing that I am being held through the pain by my Father.”

May you feel the freedom of being held in the Mercy and Grace of the Father during this painful season of your soul.
